Leveraging IBM’s design principles to celebrate a unique local culture

In 2019, IBM’s largest annual employee recognition event, Best of IBM celebrated thousands of employees and their achievements, in Bali, Indonesia.
Bali is known for its rich and colorful local culture, spirituality is founded on the importance of being close to Nature. Everything from handicrafts, art, architecture and even fashion find inspiration from regional flora, flora, and animals. Equally important are colors and forms inherent within the Balinese landscape.
We collaborated with popular stop-motion artist Becca Classon to create compositions that used real natural objects locally found in Bali, celebrating the culture and its deep-rooted connection to nature, while staying true to the IBM visual brand.
Local flowers, leaves, spices, seeds formed core elements of these compositions, and also inspired the color palette for the event.
These artworks were implemented on environmental graphics, wayfinding signage, the digital app as well the main stage design.
